If there was a place for fun, the Stone Toad was it in the 1970s and 80s. Stone Toad, commemorated with the Stone Toad vintage long-sleeve t shirt, was the go-to next stop for live music or dancing once the time was up at Park Avenue or Papagaio's. Many legendary music acts played the Stone Toad including Cheap Trick, The Allman Brothers, Muddy Waters, and Bob Seger. It was a place with good vibes and holds stories of first encounters that led to wedding nuptials. One could also rely on an excellent burger during lunchtime, and if you were a member of the band, you had a convenient area downstairs to enjoy cannabis in peace. Started by Joe Balistreri and later owned by Bev Manthey, Stone Toad remains a sweet spot in the memory of many Milwaukeeans.
